Mission Statement
The Athletic Training education program at Appalachian State University has been in existence for more than 25 years, was one of the first NATA Approved programs, has been accredited by CAAHEP from 1993-2006, and are currently accredited by CAATE. We provide a challenging program that encourages the highest quality classroom and clinical experiences for our students. Our program prides itself on providing the students with opportunities to grow not only professionally but personally as well.
Our Athletic Training education program's philosophy is consistent with Appalachian State University's, that is, the instruction of the undergraduate student is the primary consideration for all members of our athletic training faculty. Our program treats the student as an individual and attempts to meet his/her needs. Secondary to instruction, the athletic training program provides a setting to develop the student's social and moral character. Furthermore, we expect the athletic training faculty and staff to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainers' Association Code of Professional Practice and the credentialing statutes of North Carolina.The purpose of the athletic training education program at Appalachian State University is to prepare professionals for careers in athletic training. We will do this in the following ways:
- by providing open and challenging learning environments in both the classroom and clinical settings;
- by providing the student with the incentive and skills necessary to remain current in the profession of athletic training;
- by equipping the student with the tools to advance the knowledge base of athletic training;
- by developing the student's interpersonal communication skills;
- by integrating classroom knowledge and clinical practice; and
- by providing an academic program that incorporates the six domains of the 5th edition of the BOC Role Delineation Study and the 12 content areas of the 4th edition of the Athletic Training Educational Competencies
