Health Promotion
Degree Information and Curriculum
Students take a wide variety of classes, each of which has been structured to equip graduates with the information and skills needed to help people in the community improve their lifestyles. Included are classes in nutrition, physical fitness, substance abuse, disease prevention, environmental health, health risk appraisal, and health behavior change.
A minor is required in one of four areas--exercise science, foods and nutrition, general business, or psychology. (See the Health Promotion "checksheet" for detailed information).
The curriculum is also designed to allow students to go on for graduate education at one of our nation's 28 accredited Schools of Public Health to obtain the MPH degree. Nationwide, 2,500 job positions for MPH professionals remain unfilled each year.
An internship experience is required, with sites available throughout North Carolina and the entire U.S. at such settings as hospitals, corporations, health/fitness centers, and public health departments. You will be matched with a site that provides the best experience based on your background and future goals.
