Recreation Management Lecturer Position

The Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science at Appalachian State University seeks applicants to fill a lecturer position in Recreation Management. This nine month non-tenure track fixed term position will begin in August 2008.  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach courses in the undergraduate Recreation Management degree program and support one or more of the Recreation Management concentrations: Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management; Recreation and Park Management; or Outdoor Experiential Education.
  2. Engage in professional, university, and departmental service.
  3. Advise undergraduate students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Earned Master’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies or related field.
  2. Evidence of service and abilities in teaching.
  3. Field experience in leisure services.

Exercise Science Area - Available Positions

The Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science at Appalachian State University is seeking applicants to fill an Assistant Professor position in the area of exercise science.  This is a nine month tenure track position

Effective Date:  August 2008

RANK/SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate in exercise science or related area with a potential for research and successful grant writing.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and active participation in allied professional organizations.  Applicants should have primary expertise in wellness/cardiac rehabilitation.  Subspecialties may include but are not limited to the following: assessment of cardiovascular function, exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and/or statistics. ACSM certification preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruction and advisement at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Courses taught may include topics related to wellness/cardiac rehabilitation, exercise physiology and fitness. Other duties may include practicum/internship supervision, conducting research, seeking external funding, directing and serving on thesis committees, serving on departmental and university committees and providing appropriate community service.

The Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science at Appalachian State University is seeking applicants to fill an Assistant/Associate Professor position in the area of exercise science.  This nine month tenure track position is a special appointment with a reduced teaching load and research emphasis.

Effective Date: August 2008

RANK/SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate in exercise science or related area with established record of research and successful grant writing.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and active participation in allied professional organizations.  Applicants should have primary expertise in exercise science.  Subspecialties may include but are not limited to the following: exercise physiology, biomechanics, cardiovascular function, and/or neuromuscular function.  Post-doctoral experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Duties include research collaboration and extramural grant funding to compliment efforts of current faculty and/or promote new research initiatives. Instruction and advisement at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Teaching will include exercise physiology and/or related courses. Other duties and responsibilities may include practicum supervision, directing and serving on thesis committees, serving on departmental and university committees and providing appropriate community service.
